Sony Pocket Reader – A Giveaway (Closed)

by Fiddledeedee on December 28, 2009

(Winner posted below)

You all know what kind of issues I have with our local library.  If my children are going to do anything to land us on the news, you can bet the scene of the crime will be the library.

I think I’ve found a way around this issue.  In the form of a handy little gadget called the Sony Reader.

This is a little piece of technological heaven that allows you to download HUNDREDS of your favorite books and have them at your fingertips.

And the Sony Reader has different technological styles and sizes to meet your reading needs!  (The girl in me squealed when I saw that some styles come in PINK.)

Ever since my parents read my favorite book, Gerald McBoing Boing (classic Dr. Seuss) to my brother and me, ad nauseum, I have been hooked on reading.  There is nothing that moves me more than to devour a book that stimulates my imagination.  A book that elicits the gamut of emotions.  A book that can describe a scene in such detail that I can close my eyes and picture it.

Way better than a movie, in my book.

To help promote the reader and celebrate the love of books, Sony has created an awesome site called Words Move Me that allow you to share the books you love, and describe the emotions elicited by those books.  I’ve also been able to add a number of books to my MUST READ list by seeing what others are saying about their favorite books.

Below is my Words that Move Me interactive widget.  Just click on the side to see more of my picks.  I had so much fun putting this together.

The first chapter book I remember reading was Charlotte’s Web, I loved that book. I read at an early age, but I remember loving Charlotte’s Web.

The first chapter book I ever read was the first book in the Little House on the Prairie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. To this day I love that series and have enjoyed passing my books on to my daughter one by one as she reads them.

I’ve always read occasionally but it was John Grisham that started me reading on a more consistent basis.

Gosh, this is hard because as far back as I can remember I have loved reading. I do remember reading Judy Blume’s book Are You There God It’s Me Margaret and I remember I was then hooked on reading all of her books so I was always going to the library just to check out as many of her books as I could. I can’t tell you how many times I reread her books!!

I am not sure which book started but my mom who is visiting for the new year holiday says it was The Polar Express. I have read many books Tom Clancy, Hardy boys, etc

I don’t know why I loved it–i reread it a few years ago, and it’s not all that. ;)
Hoping to win!
Merry New Year!

The Pippi Longstocking series by Astrid Lindgren . I was captivated by the little red headed girl who had such exciting adventures. Little did I know then I would actually have my own little red headed girl who likes to play “ventures” .

Hmm I cant remember which sparked my lifetime love. Well I can recall the one that sparked my lifetime love of fantasy books!
That would be “Dragons of Autumn Twilight” By Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman!

From the minute I came out of the womb I think I loved books. One that I remember that I’m sure we were reading before I could form memories is Don’t Ever Tease a Weasel by Jean Conder Soule (had to look that one up; it’s still with my parents and long out of print). There was also Anne Likes Red by Dorothy Z. Seymour. When my daughter stops being so hard on books I hope she likes them as much as I did!

Please, please, please! I love reading and have loved it as long as I can remember. Keeping my fingers crossed for a win! Love your blog too!

Honestly, I can’t remember the very first because I learned to read so early that my memory doesn’t go back that far! One of the first though was Ramona The Pest by Beverly Cleary. Loved all of her books – and my kids loved them too!

I started reading at 3 yrs old. I do not remember the first book I read. But the first books that I can really remember were the Beverly Cleary Ramona books and all books by Judy Blume. I absolutely adore reading. I’m currently waiting on my 3 Jodi Picoult books to arrive from Amazon!

Jen January 2, 2010 at 9:03 am

I loved reading The Dollhouse Murders when I was in 2nd grade. The Hobbit came next around 4th grade.

Regina January 2, 2010 at 1:32 pm

I remember reading Little Golden books and I was just enamored with them! We had so many and my brother and I each got to choose one to read at bedtime. I remember The Little Engine that Could–I loved that story.

NGS January 2, 2010 at 4:12 pm

Ramona Quimby Age 8 by Beverly Clearly. I remember so clearly realizing her frustrations were my very own!!

Terri January 2, 2010 at 10:15 pm

The first book that I was seriously obsessed with was The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary. It was my first “chapter book” and I read it over and over again till it fell apart. I still have it.

Darcy January 2, 2010 at 10:25 pm

A tool for aiding and abetting the book obsession, how cool is that!

Remember Where the Red Fern Grows, or Island of the Blue Dolphins, or Mother Goose? I can not pick a favorite aside from the Bible. Several versions of the Bible are available for download on this nifty little gadget too!

anthy January 2, 2010 at 11:43 pm

The first book that I remember really loving was “Elsa’s Bears Learn to Paint” by Anna Virin – and the first book that I loved that I read myself was “Dorrie and the Blue Witch” by Patricia Coombs.

Thank you for the giveaway!

I don’t remember the first book I read, but I’ve been an avid reader my whole life! I remember reading the Bobsye Twins and Nancy Drew and the Tolkein books among the many. When I began reading to my kids, our favorite first book was Sandra Boynton’s Going to Bed Book, then Bill Pete’s Kermit the Hermit (and all other Bill Pete books). My daughter reads all the time ~ she’s 17 and can still remember quotes from Kermit the Hermit. This would be a fabulous way to keep reading in the new year! Thanks for the chance to win.

Barbara January 3, 2010 at 2:23 pm

I have been reading as long as I can remember. In elementary school (first grade maybe?) our librarian read us a book called “Hundreds of Cats, Thousands of Cats, Millions and Billions and Trillions of Cats”. I couldn’t wait to check it out myself to take home. I’ve had the Sony Reader on my wish list but still don’t have one. Thanks for this giveaway.

sandra January 3, 2010 at 4:23 pm

i don’t remember the first book, but i would love to read the sweet valley high series as a young one

PinchingAbe January 3, 2010 at 6:01 pm

Oddly enough, I don’t remember having a lot of books in our house as a child. I do remember, however, falling in love with the Nancy Drew books by Carolyn Keene. I voraciously read those in elementary and high school.

I have always enjoyed book series – I think I gravitate toward them because I never want the story to end.

For me it was: “The raven” by Edgar Allan Poe.
I remember feeling the heart beating under the floor and remember I was taken away from the room I was in and was there with him.

Krista January 3, 2010 at 7:39 pm

I sent out a tweet too:

P.S. In response to my answer the book I had was called The Raven, it was a compilation of his stories, including The Raven and the one I mentioned, Tell Tale Heart.)

Jaclyn Reynolds January 3, 2010 at 9:16 pm

The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. I love the art in the book and of course that it was green. I also read lots of Little Golden Books but I couldn’t remember the specific authors. :D

CherylS22 January 3, 2010 at 10:02 pm

I really can’t remember the first book I read that sparked my life-long interest in reading. But, one of the first books I consciously remember was “A Separate Peace” by John Knowles.
Thanks for the great opportunity!

RockyMomma January 3, 2010 at 11:44 pm

I can’t remember my first; it seems as if I’ve always had a book ( or three) in process. Amelia Bedelia was probably the first to give me a love for words and the complexities of the English language.

Bahodson January 4, 2010 at 10:34 am

Nancy. Drew. I loved the original author Carolyn Keene. Sparked my imagination! I would pretend to be run my own detective agency. My poor mother :)

Sarah Eliza @ devastateboredom January 4, 2010 at 12:49 pm

Pretty sure it was the Boxcar Children. or A Little Princess. or or or… its hard to pick! There are so many…

Debi January 4, 2010 at 1:26 pm

I loved the Nancy Drew books as well. I do remember reading “Carpet Baggers” by Harold Robbins at an early age. I found it at a relatives house one summer. I should have never read it that young.

Marion January 4, 2010 at 8:10 pm

I hate to admit it, but the series by Grace Livingston Hill was available to me, and I read every one I could find.
