Bug Off!
July 9th, 2009 by FiddledeedeeHere in Florida, our tourist brochure boasts of alligators, hurricanes, plagues of frogs, and bugs that are as big as your head.
Makes you want to pack your suitcase, right?
There isn’t much I can do about the first 3, and believe me I’ve tried, but as far as the bugs go, I have a sure fire method to KEEP THEM OFF OF ME!
Besides, you know, sequestering myself inside all summer.
My sweet blogging friend, Amy, owner and proprietor of Great Cakes Soapworks, has an answer for my bug phobia.
She sells a product called Bug Off, that comes in bar form and a spray, and besides keeping the bugs away, IT DOES NOT STINK.
This is important to certain people I live with who have heightened olfactory senses.
A month or so ago, Fiddledaddy and Emme headed outside to do lawn work. As they walked by, Cailey’s head popped up from her drawing to exclaim, “EWWWWW. WHAT IS THAT HORRIBLE SMELL?”
And indeed, it was rank.
They explained that they were wearing bug repellant and Fiddledaddy boasted that it was “all natural.”
Well. So is cow manure, but I wouldn’t slather it all over myself.
Anyhoo. Cailey continued to complain about the smell for TWO DAYS, and thereafter referred to it as “poison.”
I informed them that from now on, they will be using Bug Off when tending to our yard needs. Amen.
It has a nice light woodsy smell, so it doesn’t offend the men in the house by appearing too flowery. And most importantly, it’s not poison.
Bug Off is 100% all natural, and it can be sprayed on clothes or skin, but you must avoid the face. Which makes complete sense, because otherwise you’d be all MY EYES, MY EYES!!!!!

Oh my, I had a hard time choosing, but I think I will pick the Lip Butter, because I’m kind of a Chapstick freak. It looks so good!
We’re headed down to FL in a few months and I’d really really like to have the bug spray/bar to pack! I don’t have any sort of critter repellent on my list yet – I must do that! To bad I can’t find a frog/alligator repellent!

I love the Handmade Sugar Scrub
Yum!
July 9th, 2009 at 11:34 am
For me it would be the Jojoba Lotion. I always slather on lotion after a bath or a shower. The lip butters look wonderful, too, along with the bug repellent stick. Hard to choose just one!

Well, I love the lip butters, but I am just in love with the watermelon soap on the front page … how cute and fun is that?! Put a smile on my face for sure.

I’d love to try all her products…but to date have only tried her natural soaps. I love them!
July 9th, 2009 at 12:20 pm
Oooh…that Lip Butter looks so yummy! Especially the Coconut Mango.
Dang it, all that handmade soap looks good too. And the Sugar Scrub.
And the Bug Off is brilliant! I never have anything I feel I can put on my small children.

I love all the soaps, but I think my favorite thing is the Dead Sea Facial Mask. I love that it is all natual, and it leaves my face feeling refreshed!

The bug off spray would be just great. My granddaughter attracts mosquitoes really bad and she scratches until they make sores, then scars.
July 9th, 2009 at 12:58 pm
I think my tootsies need some of the foot scrub. Thank you!

We have to pick ONE product we’d like to try??? Oh the pressure. I’ll go for any of it but the Skin Glow looks interesting. But then again those lip butters look good too.

Lip Butter! Have some; love it!

My favorite product by far is the Dead Sea Mud Mask…..this is a product that both my 11 year old daughter and I use and it has become one of our Mother/Daughter events! All of Amy’s products are fantastic, but the Mud mask by far is my favorite……

I am addicted to chapstick of various sorts for the lip butter would have to win.

I’d be all about the Sugar Scrub. Anything to help my scaly legs!
July 9th, 2009 at 7:26 pm
Lovin’ some sugar scrub! And the Bug Off sounds great! Oh, and my poor feet would probably thank me for the Just for Feet items…

We have her Bug Off Solid Stick; it’s so easy to use, smells nice, and keeps the bugs away. My favorite, though, is the Jojoba lotion – Black Raspberry Creme or Jasmine Rose.
July 9th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Ooh, those fizzy Tub Truffles look AMAZING. I could soak for hours with them.
July 9th, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Black raspberry creme anything sounds divine but the watermelon soap is adorable and since it’s summer I gotta go with the cute over the scent. I am skeptical about the bugs though because bugs seem willing to brave all but the very most toxic goo to bite me. If the stuff really works I would be a HUGE fan!
July 9th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
Oooh, the tub truffles look marvelous. I love taking baths, mostly because it’s the only time I can just LOCK the door and read a book without jumping up every second to help a kid. “Sorry, dear, can you help the toddler? I’m in the bath…” Yay.

I have to say that I feel a need to try a bunch of her products. In addition to the Bug Off soap, I would really like to try the whipped shea butter and maybe also the Dead Sea Facial Mask. And while I’m at it, I’d like the lip butter as well as the lava lip gloss (strawberry)! I think that’s a good start!
July 10th, 2009 at 5:23 am
The jojoba lotion is rich and creamy and needs to come in a 10 gallon jug! Amy’s lip butters are the best – they don’t even melt in a hot car! The Dead Sea soap smells like mud… but it makes your skin feel like silk. I have all of these products and will continue to buy them. Amy even personally emails her customers – what a sweetie! I am a camper, so the Bug Off would be helpful.
July 10th, 2009 at 5:25 am
The sugar scrub for sure.
July 10th, 2009 at 7:00 am
Not sure I could pick just one but the Bug Off would be great.. We have a ton of bugs here and I have a special needs daughter that can’t use many of the regular sprays.
July 10th, 2009 at 7:23 am
I love everything Great Cakes SoapWorks has to offer but even when money is tight there are three items I Will Not be Without:
1. Clarifying Facial Natural Soap
2. Dead Sea Spa bar
3. Skin Glow Facial Moisturizer
July 10th, 2009 at 7:51 am
I NEED the whipped shea butter for my horribly dry, cracked and scratchy feet!!
July 10th, 2009 at 8:19 am
We have lots of bugs too…this may be the what we need!
July 11th, 2009 at 11:50 am
LIMEADE flavored Lava Lip Gloss? Oh heavens, that sounds YUMMY!
But the Bug Off would be excellent, because I have to use natural products on the kiddo because of eczema!

Hmmm, it was tough to choose. Lip butter just sounds too yummy, as does the sugar scrubs. But what really piqued my interest was the handmade soap bars. Especially that watermelon one and the sweet and sassy, that is of course out of stock. ;0)
July 12th, 2009 at 9:19 am
Jasmine Rose shea butter in the tube. Yummmmmmmmy!
Thanks

Whipped shea butter…used it on my belly when I was pregnant. Worked like a charm! Not preggo now but would love to have some for when my skin gets a little thirsty.
July 13th, 2009 at 6:39 am
Those lip butters sound wonderful! So does the bug spray–I’m tired of getting eaten alive, and I hate to use those smelly insect repellents.
July 13th, 2009 at 7:25 am
I like the Grapefruit & Peppermint Foot Scrub. I love foot care of all kinds – it makes me super happy!
July 13th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
Hmmm….wonder if the Bug Off would work on our bird-sized mosquitos here in Louisiana? I’d love to give it a shot!
